For Deschutes County, which encompasses much of Central Oregon, the numbers have been pretty good – the average prices on homes sold is only up 11.4% from one year ago, and the average Days on the Market went from 141 to 108 from January to August 2016. The average price/square foot went from $184 to 199/square foot during the same time period.
What do these numbers mean? We have a strong, vibrant community where people want to live, work and recreate and people are paying decent prices to do so. Not over-inflated as years way past, just a healthy bump for how many people are moving to our area.
We are expecting over 30,000 more people in the next 20 years. We’ve been “discovered.” That’s good and bad. The culture and job opportunities that new-comers have brought are wonderful. The extra cars and traffic and the stress on our water and sewer systems are not wonderful. The price of growth to live in paradise with clean air and clean water.
